Thunder Bay Hydro and Kenora Hydro have merged to create a new combined company, Synergy North.
The merger went into effect on Jan. 1 with the entity serving more than 56,000 residential and business customers in northwestern Ontario.
The new corporate utility will be helmed by former Thunder Bay Hydro president-CEO Robert Mace under a single board of directors.
“The combination of the two local utilities significantly improves our ability to address the increasing demands of Ontario’s evolving electricity sector,” said Mace, in a Jan.11 news release.
“As a single company, we are creating efficiencies that allow us to invest in innovation, upgrade our distribution and service systems, and ultimately deliver more value to Northern customers. By merging our resources, we are a stronger and more sustainable distribution company for the future.”
Under the new corporate tagline of “The Power of the North,” the rollout of the Synergy North brand will be seen across the region in the coming months.
“In addition to the new name and look, customers in both communities will continue to receive a high level of service, and can expect to see some new amenities from our utility in the coming months,” added Mace.
