Passenger levels at the Sault Ste. Marie Airport continue their ascent.
August’s numbers saw an increase from July marking back to back months of the highest levels in the past 17 months.
“Passenger levels continued an encouraging trend and aircraft were flying at above normal capacity levels,” said Terry Bos, Sault Ste. Marie Airport President and CEO in a news release.
The numbers, however, are still down more than 70 per cent from 2019 levels.
“Air Canada has since added a third daily flight after Labour Day which will hopefully provide for continued encouraging passenger level recovery,” said Bos.
“The additional daily flight by Air Canada, a number of additional Bearskin flights per week and the impending return of Porter in October certainly provide for a level of optimism in the recovery.”
Bearskin Airlines provides two daily flights Sunday, five flights daily Monday to Thursday and four flights on Friday for a total of 26 flights per week. Air Canada Express provides three flights daily. This is still a decrease in flight options compared to September of 2019 when Air Canada was flying four daily flights, Porter was flying three flights daily Sunday to Friday and one on Saturday, and Bearskin was flying 31 flights per week.
