The City of Timmins is gearing up to host the 2022 Canadian Mining Expo, which has become one of the largest gatherings of mining expertise in Northern Ontario.
Taking place June 8-9 at the McIntyre Arena in Timmins, the expo features more than 400 exhibitors, conferences, demonstrations, networking events, and a jackleg competition.
This marks the first time in two years the event has been held in person, following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Highlights of this year’s activities include a lunchtime panel discussion during which senior leaders will discuss mine projects in the pipeline; a technology conference, which will focus on communication, electrical ancillary services, digital transformation, and other topics driving the electric vehicle charge; and an Aboriginal forum, which will provide insight into benefit sharing, and business and workforce development for and with Indigenous people.
There will also be a talk on the mining labour force with experts providing a forecast on the sector’s future employment needs, and an opportunity for high school students to explore their options in the industry.
Known colloquially as 'The Big Event,’ the annual expo has been in operation since 1993.
It’s since become one of Northern Ontario's biggest mining tradeshows, where mining companies and suppliers gather to showcase their businesses and products.
