The former Northern Empire gold mill in Beardmore is back in operation again after remaining idle for almost a decade. Roxmark Mines, a Greenstone-area company, which acquired the mill and mine property five years ago, now employs 20 people on the site and is considering expansion. About 200 tonnes of ore, mostly from Roxmark's properties throughout Greenstone, is handled daily using a gravity-feed system and cyanide to extract the gold. The company is considering offering their services to other mining companies wanting to process small amounts of ore. With gold prices expected to rebound next year, an increase in the workforce is being considered.
