Delegates attending the Northwestern Ontario Associated Chamber of Commerce's general meeting in Dryden are calling on the province to keep agricultural research centres in Thunder Bay and Emo open.
The University of Guelph intends to close the Thunder Bay station and its Emo facility, which would affect three employees. They are unable to secure the necessary funding to keep the centre open.
The delegates want the Ministry of Agriculture and Food to find replacement funding by Oct. 31 to support the forestry and agricultural sector in northwestern Ontario, which includes projects on crop diversification and processing.
