Eight of Greater Sudbury's outstanding citizens were celebrated at the 11th Annual Community Builders Awards of Excellence (CBA’s) Gala, Feb. 20.
"Each year, we hear inspiring stories of struggle and success, of inventiveness and ingenuity, of dedication and delivery, and of commitment and caring," said Abbas Homayed, publisher of Northern Life "These are attributes that build community. These are attributes that sustain communities, and these are attributes that we honour at the CBA’s every year."
Georges Brouilette, founder of City Welding, won the Economic Development Award.
Brouilette has grown his company from a one-man shop to a 24,000-square-foot enterprise that employs 40.
Muriel Checkeris, owner of Artists on Elgin gallery, won the Arts Award while Kevin McCormick of Huntington University took home the Education.
Naomi Grant was recognized with the Environment Award and the Alzheimer Society Sudbury-Manitoulin snagged the Health Care Award.
Vince Perdue fielded the Sports and Recreation Award and College Boreal student Zaccharie Lefrancois. Bela Ravi was the winner of the Hall of Fame Award.
"We are so lucky at Northern Life,” said Northern Life president Michael Atkins. “Not only do we tell your stories, once a year we get to experience the true greatness of Greater Sudbury through the Community Builders Awards of Excellence."
