Cambrian College has opened a new lab to help support students, alumni and community members in their entrepreneurial endeavours.
The Hanson Venture Lab is described as an entrepreneurial space that will host workshops, lectures, collaborations with existing entrepreneurs, and networking opportunities.
Hanson College contributed $1.3 million to the project, which helped with construction and equipment, along with an endowment fund to support student entrepreneurs.
Hanson — a private, Toronto-based college — has been delivering programming exclusively to international students at Cambrian since 2005.
“For 20 years we have worked together with Cambrian College to see students grow, thrive, and succeed,” Shouyi Ma, president and CEO of Hanson College, said in a news release.
“With this new facility, I hope we will continue with that legacy of dedication to student success for more years to come.”
Cambrian’s president, Kristine Morrissey, welcomed the collaboration.
“The Hanson Venture Lab will give our students a dedicated environment to bring their entrepreneurial ideas to life, collaborate with peers, and gain the skills they need to succeed in today’s fast-paced business world,” she said in the release.
“We are very grateful for this very generous contribution from Hanson College that has made this space possible.”
The lab’s opening coincided with the celebration of Research and Innovation Week at the college, which was observed from March 31 to April 4, 2025.
