Hard-Line, a Sudbury mine automation company, is funding facility improvements and upgrades at Laurentian University’s Bharti School of Engineering.
The company announced on Oct 24 of its $250,000 investment over five years for lab renovations, new computer work stations and furnishings, and multimedia equipment in the Mechatronics program.
The Bharti School of Engineering offers programing in mining, chemical and mechanical engineering (with environmental, mechatronics and metallurgy options) and has produced graduates specializing in engineering, software and electrical systems, skills that are valued by companies like Hard-Line.
Headquartered in Sudbury with offices in the U.S., Chile and Peru, Hard-Line is a leading supplier of automation, tele-operation, and remote-control technology to the mining industry.
“We are proud to partner with Laurentian University,” said company president Walter Siggelkow in a news release. ”Together, we work to support the future of our industry by providing students with the programs and tools they need to succeed in the changing landscape of the field.”
“The Bharti School of Engineering is one of Laurentian University’s brightest success stories,” added engineering school director Markus Timusk.
“It is recognized as a top producer of engineering talent for Northeastern Ontario as well as a global leader in mining research and education. This donation shows a commitment to the Bharti School of Engineering and a confidence in Laurentian’s students.”
