The Fall Rendezvous in Sault Ste. Marie is among the cultural events being supported by new funding from FedNor.

Cultural events across the North got a boost from the federal government on Sept. 20, with an $80,000 investment designed to attract more tourists to the region.

FedNor announced the funds will go to Ontario Culture Days, a series of cultural festivals being held in communities across Ontario.

In the North, festivals will be held in communities including Manitoulin Island, Sault Ste. Marie, Thunder Bay, Temiskaming, Greater Sudbury, and Timmins.

Examples include the NorthWords and Elemental Festival in Kagawong on Manitoulin Island and the Fall Rendezvous in Sault Ste. Marie.

“Northern Ontario is full of experiences that attract visitors from all over the world. Today’s investment into the Ontario Culture Days Festival continues to help grow the local tourism industry by supporting small businesses and creating an economy that’s fair for everyone,” FedNor Minister Patty Hajdu said in a news release.

Specifically, the funds will be used to help Ontario Culture Days develop marketing material to help event organizers enhance cultural experiences in the communities and increase international tourism.

This year, Ontario Culture Days will take place between Sept. 20 and Oct. 13.
