Northern College has launched a new technology campaign to increase awareness among high school students and returning learners that the opportunities for satisfying and well-paying careers in trades and technology are vast.

“A few short years ago, health-care experts were announcing a serious labour shortage in their sector and as we now see, this has come to pass. Labour experts are now alarmed by the upcoming shortage of tradespeople, technicians and technologists,” says Carole Belanger, communications officer at Northern College.

The college offers a number of engineering technology diploma programs and one-year certificate trades programs. The college will be hosting “Hats Off to Trades,” a trades information fair to be held at Northern College’s Porcupine Campus on March 25. The Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists commissioned a study earlier this year that showed 60 per cent of certified technicians and technologists are 40 years of age and 21 per cent of those are over 50. www.northernc.on.ca
