NEOnet has been asked by Industry Canada’s Broadband for Rural and Northern Development (BRAND) program for more information on the need for broadband in several northern communities.
In December 2002, NEOnet submitted three business plans for the Cochrane, Timiskaming and Gogama-Foleyet areas.
“High-speed access is available in the urban areas of our region, but our rural areas really need broadband to improve services and opportunities for Northern residents,” says NEOnet chair Christy Marinig.
BRAND officials have asked NEOnet to submit additional information on its business plans in anticipation of a second evaluation round on Nov. 20.
Key to this request is confirmation of other funding sources, as well as a request for letters of support from area residents stating why they need the broadband service and how they would use it.
