Sudbury architect Louis Bélanger has been named a fellow to the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC).

He joins 42 others from across Canada to receive the honour in 2025.

Achieving fellowship with the RAIC is considered a prestigious milestone in the architectural community, denoting significant achievement in the field.

“A Fellow of the RAIC College is a member of the RAIC who has achieved professional eminence or has rendered distinctive service to the profession or to the community at large. Nomination and advancement to Fellowship is administered by the RAIC College,” the RAIC said in a statement.

“Fellowship is bestowed upon individuals through a nomination process administered by the RAIC College and recognizes members for their contribution to research, scholarship, public service, or professional standing to the good of architecture in Canada, or elsewhere.”

Bélanger is a partner with Bélanger Salach Architecture, a full-service architecture firm founded in Sudbury in 1964.

A graduate of the architecture program at the University of Waterloo, Bélanger has been with the firm for more than 25 years.

In that time, he’s led the design of health-care, institutional, educational and residential buildings with a focus on public spaces within a Northern Ontario setting.

Projects of note he’s worked on include Health Sciences North expansions, paroisse Ste-Anne-des-Pins, Holy Cross Catholic Elementary School and l’école catholique St-Denis.

The RAIC will induct its new members on June 3 during the 2025 RAIC Conference being held in Montreal.
