Makami Engineering is expanding to Sault Ste. Marie.

The Sudbury-headquartered firm announced on April 1 it’s acquired RA Engineers & Inspectors, which has provided engineering and inspection services in the Algoma region for close to 40 years.

“We’re a dynamic engineering firm that’s focused on delivering high-quality engineering services for clients across a variety of industries and sectors as well as being a workplace that fosters an amazing culture, and we’re excited to be calling Sault Ste. Marie home for another of our offices,” said Brian (“Bud”) Dzuirban, Makami’s founding partner and principal engineer, in a news release.

RA Engineers & Inspectors was founded by John Rowswell, a former Sault mayor, and Byron Moss as Rowswell Engineering in 1986.

The company provides civil, structural, welding engineering and inspection, and project management services throughout Northern Ontario and Michigan.

Dzuirban said the acquisition has personal meaning, as his professional career started at Rowswell Engineering, and Rowswell and Moss provided mentorship during his years working in Sault Ste. Marie.

“The specialty structural and welding engineering that I’ve been doing in Sudbury for more than three decades originated from my work at Rowswell Engineering,” Dzuirban added.

Makami said the acquisition means the company can now provide a “powerhouse of specialty engineering services to the Algoma region.”

The deal came into effect on March 31.
