A $15-million upgrade to Domtar's Chapleau lumber mill should be complete this summer. The forest products giant installed new technology to make better use of smaller trees including a new trimmer optimizer, a small log saw line with debarker and a blower system for handling wood chips. The additions should boost production of spruce lumber to 120 million board-feet annually by early 2004. Most of the mill's production goes directly into the Canadian market through supply agreements with retailers such as RONA.
