Chapleau's economic future has been mapped out with their updated strategic plan. Released in late April, the document outlines a number of opportunities designed to increase and strengthen the town's economic base. This exercise was last carried out by the town in 1991. The plan was based on local suggestions aimed at making Chapleau a better place to live and boosting economic activity. One of the recommendations was to encourage and foster more of a pro-business attitude for startup ventures and partnerships. Developing tourism opportunities for the Chapleau Crown Game Preserve and the snowmobile and ATV club, as well as obtaining funding for a feasibility study for a major tourist attraction were listed among the report's recommendations. For the forestry industry, there is a commitment to investigate value-added opportunities and promote research in genetic engineering, microbiology and greenhouse silviculture.
