The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is investigating a plane crash that claimed the life of a prominent Timmins businessman.

Marcel Lafleur, 64, died Aug. 4 when the Cessna 172 float plane he was piloting crashed into the bush near Horwood Lake, about 80 kilometres east of Chapleau.

The owner of William Drew Florists Ltd. was heading to the lake on a fishing trip.

Investigators say weather was not a factor and the aircraft was working properly. They are examining the possibility of some kind of medical emergency on board, since evidence shows the plane was not under control and appeared to plunge vertically. With their field work complete, investigators were awaiting an autopsy report.

Lafleur was a member of the Timmins Rotary Club, Knights of Columbus and was involved with the Timmins Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Timmins BIA.
