Sawmill workers favour strike action (7/02)

Industrial Wood and Allied Workers of Canada Local 2693 members are in favour of striking at two area sawmills in Sapawe, Ont.

A news release said if employees of Atikokan Forest Products and Bowater Ignace Sawmill cannot reach a settlement with the ongoing negotiations, a strike may be imminent.

Approximately 250 people work at the sawmill, of which 88 per cent voted in favour of a strike. The workers have been without a contract since Aug. 31, 2001.

At Ignace, 50 employees voted 100 per cent to strike and have been without a contract since March 31,2001.
