Canada Safeway will request a second government-supervised vote on its “last, best and final” contract offer to striking employees in Thunder Bay.
Safeway threatened to close its three Thunder Bay stores if employees did not accept the company’s offer in a vote held May 9. Employees turned the offer down voting 195 in favour and 201 opposed.
Canada Safeway officials claim the employees were pressured to vote against the offer. However, an official with the United Food and Commercial Workers Union disputes the claim, and says the union did not pressure workers to vote against the offer.
