An unusual occurrence of diamond-bearing breccia rock on the Festival diamond property near Wawa has prompted Pele Mountain Resources to extract bulk samples for processing.
Bulk samples were taken from an outcrop of diamond-bearing pyroclastic ultramafic breccia rock and will be processed by De Beers Consolidation Mines, a subsidiary of Anglo American. Officials with Pele report that the strike length and width of the Archaen-age deposit is a good indication the company is looking at a sizeable deposit, and that the size and distribution of the recovered microdiamonds suggest potential for commercial-size stones.
De Beers expects results from the processed samples will be ready by mid-December.
