Rubicon Minerals Corp. is forging ahead with its first phase of diamond drilling to test three main target areas at Red Lake. The junior exploration company, with 300 square kilometres of land holdings in the Red Lake gold camp of Ontario, is investing $1million on the exploration program which will result in 18,000 feet of drilling with joint-venture partner AngloGold Canada. One of the targets, the Dorion-McCuaig corridor, is said to be under-explored and shows similar mineral occurrences to that of the Campbell-Red Lake gold system which hosts the high-grade Goldcorp and Placer Dome mines. October 2001 drilling at the Slate Bay target has produced encouraging results, in which broad gold zones were identified. Although large parts of the Humlin target have not yet been explored, company officials say the structure and setting is similar to that of the major mines in the Red Lake gold camp.
