Patients in an additional 33 northern communities will no longer have to leave their community for health-care consultations thanks to the expansion of NORTH Network, the Northern Ontario Remote Telecommunication Health Network at the Sudbury Regional Hospital. The technology will allow patients the opportunity for video-linked health-care consultations.
The Sudbury hospital is the major referral centre for northeastern Ontario and provides care to over 600,000 residents. Each year over 4,000 patients from outside of the Sudbury region are hospitalized in Sudbury, and thousands travel to the area to visit specialists. This initiative provides patients with a whole new level of care, a hospital official says.
