Sudbury’s Forest Fire Management Centre is getting $25 million for renovations.

Sudbury’s Forest Fire Management Centre is getting $25 million for renovations.

The management centre, which serves as the hub for coordinating emergency response and forest fire suppression for northeastern Ontario, is located at the Greater Sudbury Airport.

Renovations will include an addition to the office building, a large addition to the warehouse facility and the purchase of a nearby aviation hangar.

The improvements are expected to improve efficient use of space, allow for on-site storage, make operations safer, and offer additional space for staff during periods of increased fire activity.

The new facility will follow LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) principles.

Construction is expected to be completed during the first half of 2016.
