Dick DeStefano, executive director of the Sudbury Area Mining Supply and Services Association (SAMSSA), is being acknowledged by CollègeBoréal for his contribution to the area’s economic development.
DeStefano will receive the President’s Award during graduation ceremonies on June 6 at the college’s Sudbury campus.
The award is designed to acknowledge DeStefano’s dedication within the Sudbury business community, his major impact on the economic development of Northern Ontario, and his contribution towards postsecondary training.
“For many years, Dick DeStefano has been a pillar of our community using his in-depth knowledge of the business and political world for the benefit of our community’s development and for the renewal of the mining sector’s workforce,” Boréal president Denis Hubert-Dutrisac said in a news release. “Mr. DeStefano is an entrepreneur matched by few others and whose contribution is priceless.”
DeStefano took a leadership role in high-profile community initiatives such as the Next Ten Years Economic Diversification Conference. As executive director at SAMSSA, he brought together a number of experienced private sector mining supply and service companies that are prepared to fulfill the needs of clients in domestic and international markets. SAMSSA and its members have been represented in a number of markets, including South America, Africa and China.
