Global mine rescue conference comes to Sudbury

Sudbury and Niagara Falls will be the two host cities for the sixth annual International Mine Rescue Body (IMRB) conference. The symposium portion will be held in Niagara Falls from Oct. 5 to 10.

The symposium portion will be held in Niagara Falls from Oct. 5 to 10. The conference shifts north to the Nickel City from Oct. 10 to 13 for the field trip component.

More than 160 delegates from 12 nations are expected to attend.

The Sudbury trip features mine tours, educational talks and a trade show.

Vale, Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations - a Glencore Company, KGHM International, the City of Greater Sudbury and Workplace Safety North of North Bay are sponsors.

The conference is organized by the Canadian Association of Chief Inspectors of Mines and several mine rescue organizations.

On the agenda include topics such as emergency preparedness and response planning, crisis management, effective mine rescue training, emerging rescue technologies and mine rescue research.
