Falconbridge Ltd. received ISO 14001 certification for its Kidd Mining Division for its continued environmental efforts. The company has eight environmental management systems in place, including programs for water management and waste rock reclamation. To date, over 40 million tonnes of
waste rock have been reclaimed. An official with the company points out the ISO is a voluntary set of standards aimed at encouraging organizations to systematically address environmental impacts of their activities, and Falconbridge is the only base metal mine in Ontario to have achieved this certification.
