Following up on his leadership candidacy promise, Premier Ernie Eves announced Thunder Bay will be a full partner in the northern medical school, along with Sudbury's Laurentian University. The Ontario government's throne speech May 9 included the news Thunder Bay residents were waiting to hear in guaranteeing a dual campus medical school.
Eves was expected to make a formal announcement at a Tory fundraising dinner in Thunder Bay shortly. Officials at Lakehead University and local hospital officials believe that the announcement is confirmation there will be a four-year campus in the city and upgrades to the new regional hospital, which is now under construction across from the university, will be needed to accommodate the campus.
