With sagging ridership and diminishing operating funds, regular schedule direct air service connecting Elliot Lake and Manitoulin Island to Toronto will end Aug. 2.
Funding for the service provided by FedNor, and contributing North Shore communities, was expected to run out in early August. And with passenger volumes on Fly Huron North service never approaching the break-even point, the municipalities elected to terminate Sontair's Cessna service to Toronto's Pearson Airport after one year. Elliot Lake airport officials made a promise that passengers holding tickets after the termination date will be reimbursed.
