The northwestern Ontario community of Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls is getting a little help from the federal government in developing economic opportunities.
Local families and businesses will benefit from new economic opportunities thanks to a FedNor Community Investment Initiative for Northern Ontario (CIINO) investment of $177,000 to help the community hire a community development officer (CDO) for a three-year period.
“We would like to acknowledge the Government of Canada’s support that will assist our community in charting a course toward success,” said Jerry O’Leary, Mayor of the Township of Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls. “Today’s announcement will allow us to hire a professional community development officer to advance a number of priority projects that will help diversify the economy, stimulate growth and attract new private sector investment to the area.”
The funding announced today is provided through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program, which supports projects that promote sustainable community economic development, enhance business development and growth, and facilitate innovation throughout the region.
The announcement was made by the Honourable Bob Nault, Member of Parliament for Kenora, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for FedNor.
