Nineteen positions have been cut at Northern Telephone in New Liskeard, some through early retirement or through relocation within the network. If other positions within the Northern Telephone-Telebec network cannot be found, the affected workers will be offered severance packages. As well, some customer-service positions are being shifted from New Liskeard to Timmins to centralize service in one location. The company says the cuts will provide better efficiencies and service to customers. The two integrated companies are creating a centre of excellence in New Liskeard to provide common service to their customers and it is hoped at the end of the process that jobs being cut, could return at some point.
