The North Bay-Nipissing area has cashed in on more than $6 million of Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corp. (NOHFC) spending in the last two weeks.
The provincial government agency delivered “targeted investments” for a number of local businesses in North Bay, plus for the construction of a proposed community hall for a First Nation near Matawa.
The following companies were recipients of provincial funding:
- $2,187,359 for Industrial Plastics Canada Inc. to establish its Canadian production facility in North Bay
- $1 million for Nordic Minesteel Technologies Inc. to build a new facility and purchase equipment to support its production capacity and product design development
- $499,871 for SafeSight Exploration Inc. to develop and commercialize its Digital Tool Mine Rescue Kit – a high-tech underground mine rescue rapid response tool
- $400,000 for National Compressed Air Inc. to build a new facility and purchase equipment to expand its operation into Ontario
- $270,000 for Miller Technology Inc. to research and develop its steel protective cab – used by mining utility vehicles to safely transport people underground
- $192,397 for Awakening Software Ltd. to establish a software development company for the financial, mortgage and real estate industries
- $189,212 for Nbisiing Well Drilling to establish a water well drilling services company
- $114,960 for Simon River Sports Ltd. to establish a business that manufactures racing canoes and kayaks
- $103,107 for Tomahawk Construction Services to establish a mobile testing and quality management services company for remote construction and mining projects
- $53,137 for Smylie’s Meadowlark Farms to establish a hydroponic greenhouse for vegetables and other fresh produce
- $32,725 for Jim's Locksmithing to renovate its facility and purchase equipment to expand its advanced security services and products.
Earlier, on Oct. 18, NOHFC dispensed $1 million to Antoine First Nation, a First Nation just outside of Matawa, to build a 5,000-square-foot, Octagonal-shaped, multi-use community centre facing the Ottawa River, which will be a gathering place for community members to host year-round events, programs and services for residents.
“We recognize that by funding our local businesses we make a lasting impact on local economic development, as well as the families and community members in our region,” said Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli, the province’s economic development minister in an Oct. 24 news release.
