A post-Sept. 11 decline in passenger traffic is being blamed for a $20,000-deficit and 1,700 fewer travellers at North Bay's Jack Garland Airport during the first quarter of 2002. A report to North Bay council from community services states terrorist activities in September directly impacted revenue sources at the airport in concession and parking fees.
The deficit would have been worse if not for a revenue boost in terminal and landing fees attributed to the diversion of two Skyservice jets left stranded in North Bay due to a February snowstorm at Pearson Airport.
The airport lost $11,000 during the same period in 2001.
