North Bay's Regional Self Help Office recorded 676 new business name registrations last year and 1,160 jobs were tracked by the office as small-business growth. According to the city's economic development commission, the call centre industry created 739 new jobs through the expansions of Teletech, Clinidata and the addition of Joint Technologies Inc. and Union Gas. The city's call centre industry employs about 2,000 people, including 600 at Teletech. The retail sector accounted for 285 new jobs, through a Sears store and a recent $50-million expansion at Northgate Shopping Centre.
