Vacation charter business has been a boost for the Sault airport

Sunwing flights has been a “strength” for increasing passenger traffic

Passenger traffic through the Sault Ste. Marie Airport in March was the third best performance in the past year compared to pre-pandemic levels, said the head of the airport’s development corporation.

A recorded 14,546 people passed through the terminal in March, 78 per cent of the pre-pandemic passenger level.

In a news release, corporation CEO Terry Bos said vacation charter flights have been a big boost to the bottom line for the independently-run airport.

 “2023 is certainly off to an encouraging start, with the passenger levels showing signs of recovery, after the much slower then anticipated October to December results. The 2023 performance year to date has been led by the strength of the Sunwing numbers.”

Through the first three months of 2023, 39,003 passengers have transitting through the airport.

The Sault airport’s current number flights show Air Canada Express running two flights daily.

Bearskin Airlines operates two flights Sunday, three flights on Monday and Friday; four flights on Tuesday and Thursday and six flights on Wednesday. .

Porter runs two daily flights daily Sunday to Friday; and one on Saturday.
