Sudbury's Cambrian College is launching a new Game Design program in September.
Students in the program will focus on game development and eventual creation, but the college said there are linkages with animation, media communications and mobile app development.
Using industry standard software, participants will learn all aspects of game design including game design theory, creation, application, and production. They'll learn from concept to market-ready video games, augmented reality worlds, and virtual reality scenarios for both consumer enjoyment and commercial training purposes.
The college said expert faculty and industry advisors will teach students about how to design and develop commercial-quality game applications for a broad range of industries such as entertainment, health, education, construction, marketing, and mining.

Upon graduation, students will have a portfolio of creative work in 2D and 3D illustrating their skills in game design in their chosen area of specialization. No portfolio is required to gain admission. Applications are now being accepted.

“This program is very forward-facing. Gaming is a billion-dollar industry on par with the motion picture sector and we know we can harness the creativity, programming talents and enthusiasm of students looking for an amazing career in this field.”
“There is such demand for keen and qualified programmers and creators in this industry,” said Cambrian president Bill Best.
“At Cambrian College we offer the programming that students want and just as importantly – that industry is seeking. There are jobs all over the continent in this field and we’ll be helping fill those spots with amazing Cambrian grads.”
