A Thunder Bay landmark, the Prince Arthur Waterfront Hotel, is undergoing a “multimillion-dollar” renovation and a rebranding to a new logo.
Located on Cumberland Street in the downtown core of the former Port Arthur (now the Marina District), the boutique hotel was built in 1911 by the Canadian National Railway.
The Prince Arthur operated as a CN hotel until was it sold to new owners in 1988 and became an independent hotel.
A Sept. 13 news release said the new brand is “modern interpretation of the hotel’s original logo that is still engraved in the property’s walls.”
The design and rebranding comes from FireDog Communications, who also created the renovation concept visions.
Renovations will begin in phases starting with the exterior façade – by adding classic canopies and flags – followed by upgrades to the main lobby, elevators, guest rooms, ballroom and public spaces.
“The future of the hotel has been inspired by our long history,” said general manager Tony Scarcello in a Sept.13 news release.
“The redesign will still reflect the building’s historic architecture while simultaneously introducing a new look and feel of modern amenities and services. Our intent is to cement the hotel’s unique proposition as an irresistibly classic guest experience within the regional hotel market for decades to come.”
The aim of all these changes, Scarcello said, is to return the hotel to top-tier status in the city.
“We are honoured to be bringing this historic property back to life through unique and authentic guest experiences that cannot be duplicated anywhere else in the regional hotel market. The future Prince Arthur Waterfront Hotel will be a modern incarnation of a Thunder Bay classic that will attract both locals and visitors alike. This multimillion-dollar initiative is an investment in our guests, employees but also in the regional tourism industry.”
