Wardlaw Heating & Cooling — which has operated in Sault Ste. Marie for more than 40 years — has been sold to St. Catharines-based Right Time.
Wardlaw confirmed the sale is effective March 31, but declined further comment when contacted.
The company is a leading installer and service provider for heating, air conditioning and air quality equipment.
Its management and staff will continue to work as Right Time employees though no major change in Wardlaw signage is anticipated.
Terms of the sale of the business — announced April 1 — were not disclosed.
Wardlaw Heating & Cooling has won numerous awards from the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce over the years.
"We are proud of the company we have built and our commitment to the community we have served for the past 40 years," said co-owner Greg Wardlaw in a release.
"We chose Right Time because they have a great reputation for integrating and optimizing local HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) businesses while maintaining the company's local brand and reputation, which we believe will benefit both our dedicated team and customers. We are looking forward to Wardlaw's continued success and growth with Right Time."
Right Time has been acquiring and adding residential HVAC and home services locations to its existing network in Canada.
Right Time is described as “the leading Canadian independent heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning contractor focused on the residential market.”
It operates out of 19 locations in Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia with over 1,000 employees providing maintenance, repairs and replacements of household HVAC units.
Right Time is majority-owned by Gryphon Investors, a leading middle-market private-equity firm based in San Francisco.
Wardlaw’s Facebook page states the company was established in 1981 by Brian Wardlaw as a home heating oil delivery service with a gas station.
In 1996, Wardlaw relocated to its current location at 347 Lake Street.
The company grew, offering customers heating and air conditioning services.
In 2012, Greg Wardlaw and Kelly Jackson acquired the business and expanded the installation and service divisions.
The company has customers from Batchawana to Thessalon.
