Goldcorp was a three-time winner for excellence in corporate reporting as judged by the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada) at its annual awards in Toronto, Dec. 9.
The gold mining giant won the prestigious Overall Award of Excellence in Corporate Reporting along with awards for Excellence in Sustainability Reporting and was recognized as an industry winner in the mining category.
"At Goldcorp, we believe that strong and transparent social, environmental and economic performance and disclosures are fundamental to sustainable business practices," said Brent Bergeron, the miner’s executive vice-president of corporate affairs and sustainability in a news release. "To see this work recognized amongst such a prestigious group of companies is truly gratifying."
Twenty one awards were presented to corporate and public sector winners at the gala event.
The awards by CPA Canada recognize the important role corporate reporting plays in the economy and the financial system toward driving key investment and business decisions.
"Goldcorp performed well in all judging categories but was particularly strong with its sustainability reporting,” said CPA Canada president-CEO Kevin Dancey. “The company integrated relevant aspects of environmental, economic, social and governance information with its financial reporting resulting in a thorough picture of how it creates long-term value."
Vancouver-headquartered Goldcorp runs Ontario mining operations at Red Lake, Musselwhite and Timmins with projects under development at Cochenour (Red Lake) and Borden Lake, near Chapleau.
