The Canadian Mining Hall of Fame has announced four new inductees for 2025.

Sean Boyd, Frank Giustra, Don MacLean, and Patricia Ann Sheahan will join their colleagues in the Hall, which celebrates the outstanding contributions of people working in the mineral exploration and extraction industries.

“The 2025 inductees are exemplary pillars within the mineral exploration and mining community, each of whom has left a lasting legacy in advancing a more sustainable, responsible and prosperous industry,” Deborah McCombe, chair of the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame, said in an Oct. 15 news release.

“Mining is an essential economic driver of prosperity, and our 2025 inductees have played a major role during their careers in ensuring Canada is a global mining leader.

"They are role models for future generations to follow, and we are proud to recognize their achievements and share their stories to inspire others who will follow in their footsteps.”

Sean Boyd is the former CEO and board chair at Agnico Eagle, where he led the gold producer to become a billion-dollar company. Under his guidance, the company prioritized the wellbeing of the communities in which it operates, including a $1-million contribution to the Historic Cobalt Legacy Fund, which provides grants to special projects that preserve the history of the Town of Cobalt.

Frank Giustra was instrumental to the formation and growth of Wheaton River Minerals, orchestrating its merger with Goldcorp. He additionally helped create Nations Royalty, Canada’s largest majority Indigenous-owned public company, and built Lionsgate Entertainment, one of the world’s largest independent film companies. He is currently the president and CEO of the Fiore Group.

Donald Roderick MacLean is the founder of MacLean Engineering, a manufacturer of underground mining equipment, who had a lifelong focus on improving safety in mining. The company currently has more than 1,000 employees across six countries. In Sudbury, the company also owns and operates its own test mine, used to test and develop new equipment. MacLean died in 2024, but the company continues under the leadership of his son and grandchildren.

Patricia Ann Sheahan is a pioneering geologist and distinguished industry leader whose monthly newsletters — which she published for nearly 60 years — became an indispensable resource to the mining industry. She volunteered her time with numerous professional associations, including the Engineers’ Club of Ontario, Ontario Business Club, the Geological Association of Canada, Mineralogical Association of Canada, Society of Economic Geologists, and the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada. Sheahan retired in 2022.

The inductees  will be celebrated during the 37th annual Canadian Mining Hall of Fame dinner and induction ceremony on Jan. 9, 2025, in Toronto.
