The City of Timmins was considering dropping its appeal of Falconbridge's Kidd Creek mine's property taxes. During an Aug. 1 in-camera session, city councillors agreed to conditionally drop the matter if Falconbridge's lawyers agree not to have the city foot the company's legal bills should the matter reach the formal appeal stage.

Council's intention was to use Kidd Creek mine as a test case from which to base future appeals. The city contends the 2001 municipal tax assessment has cost them revenue due to a 1.01 per cent tax decline to large industrial properties.
