International steel pipe maker Tenaris has appointed a new Canadian president who will be based out of Sault Ste. Marie.
The Argentina and Texas-based manufacturer named Martin Castro to oversee all of its commercial, manufacturing and services operations and its Canadian workforce of 1,000.
Castro will be based at the company’s Canadian Industrial Centre in the Sault.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to meet, listen and learn from our team in Canada who have worked hard over the past couple of years to complete meaningful investments to transform our industrial footprint and to strengthen our commercial presence. I applaud their achievements and look forward to working with everyone to advance Tenaris’s positioning,” said Castro in a July 5 news release.
Tenaris is a leading manufacturer of steel pipe to the oil and gas industry.

In the last few years, the Sault facility has seen some major corporate investments including a $150-million spend to centralize pipe manufacturing, seamless and Electric Resistance Weld pipes under one roof.
“We have a unique offer for our oil and gas customers as the largest domestic manufacturer of seamless and ERW products and complement our production with our direct-to-customer services model known as Rig Direct®. There is great potential in Canada,” said Castro.
Born in Argentina and trained in industrial engineering, Castro joined Tenaris in 2007 as a global markets senior analyst. He later moved to the U.S., working in planning and commercial roles, including as commercial vice president.
He’s managed four regional offices in the States and and held managing director positions in Southeast Asia and Oceania.
Tenaris runs manufacturing facilities in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Italy, Japan, Mexico, and Venezuela with annual production in excess of three million tons of seamless pipe and 850,000 tons of welded pipe.
