The City of Greater Sudbury has established the legal framework that will allow them to move forward in the development of a wind farm. Late last week city councillors signed a deal with Toronto's Northland Power Inc. and Repower Wind Corp. of Sudbury, positioning the city to partner with the private sector for its 50-megawatt renewable energy plan. Detailed business plans, siting of the towers and calculating wind speeds are preliminary to actual construction, says a city official.
An official with Greater Sudbury says he expects Sudbury has more than the minimum seven metres per second wind resource to make the project technically feasible.
