The Paper Excellence Group is taking on the Domtar name is part of a rebranding initiative on the heels of its acquisition of Domtar and Resolution Forest Products.

South Carolina-based Paper Excellence said in a news release that the integration is part of a strategic alignment to create a unified North American leader in forest products manufacturing. Under one banner, Paper Excellence said it can leverage the companies’ strengths, resources and expertise to form a stronger organization poised for future growth and innovation, while maintaining high standards of environmental stewardship.

Paper Excellence finalized its acquisition of Resolute in 2023, bringing sawmills in Atikokan, Ignace and Thunder Buy, along with the Thunder Bay pulp and paper mill, under its umbrella. The deal made Resolute a subsidiary of Domtar, which, itself, had been acquired by Paper Excellence in 2021.

"As a fully integrated company, we are better positioned to deliver for our customers, strengthen relationships with our key stakeholders and drive innovation across our industry,” said John D. Williams, non-executive chair of Domtar’s management board, in a statement.

“As a result of the integration, we now have a company that boasts the best of our three legacy companies and is poised to pursue and achieve future growth and success. Our new brand is a reflection of our shared mission to lead with purpose and impact."

Domtar will continue to serve pulp, paper, packaging, tissue and wood products markets under the legacy names. No changes will be made to the location of corporate offices will remain in Fort Mill, S.C., Richmond, B.C. and Montreal or plant production footprint.
