For the time being, lumber industries in Canada will get a break from the 19.3 per cent countervailing duties imposed on softwood lumber. The duty has been lifted for a three-month period, at which point in time the United States will rule on the duties and could opt to reinstate them. Anti-dumping duties of 12.6 per cent will still be enforced.
If reinstated, a federal government appeal to the World Trade Organization will take place.
