A southern Ontario tech company that provides virtual veterinary care services for farm animals is the winner of the 2024 Pitch competition hosted by NORCAT and Northern Ontario Angels.
VETSon, led by Colin Yates, was chosen by a panel of judges during the Sept. 19 event, which was held in Sudbury.
Headquartered in Norwich, east of London, VETSon uses AI to provide virtual support to farmers in the health care of their animals.
According to the company, VETSon “streamlines direct-to-farm sales and delivery of vital medication and supplies.
“The platform also enables seamless tracking of animal health and facilitates transparent communication between the veterinarian and the customer.”
As the top prize winner, VETSon receives $10,000 and $3,500 in vouchers to support business development.
The Pitch event, held this year at Places des Arts in downtown Sudbury, allows entrepreneurs to pitch their ventures to a panel of investors with an opportunity to win cash and prizes.
The People's Choice Award went to Sudbury's Karen Hastie for Chamber Perks, an app that's designed for Chambers of Commerce to update their membership on news and perks, and help with sales and marketing.
Hastie receives $5,000 and a one-year membership to the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce.
In the Student Innovation Challenge, Sudbury's The Alpha Nova was chosen by judges for the top prize for their VanGuardian technology.
The fall-alert system is designed to help let caregivers know if a loved one falls. As winners, they receive $1,000.
In the same category, the People's Choice Award went to SellStatic of Toronto, which automates advertising and marketing for the real estate industry.
They receive $500 for their work.
