Parry Sound area is a magnet for provincial funds

Georgian Bay communities rake in more than $2 million on October

Georgian Nordic Outdoor Activity Centre, outside Parry Sound, received $500,000 from Heritage Fund for infrastructure and trail improvements.

The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund (NOHFC) is back into the Parry Sound area, shoring up support for Parry Sound-Muskoka MPP Graydon Smith.

NOHFC is delivering $55,949 to the Local Services Board of Britt-Byng Inlet to fix up a public dock in the community, according to an Oct. 11 news release.

The money is earmarked for a refurbishment job to clear away debris from the damaged structure, reduce its length to lower maintenance costs, repair the dock structure and replace the decking. New shoreline gravel will be spread around.

On Oct. 7, the Georgian Nordic Outdoor Activity Centre, a ski club in McDougall Township, fielded $500,000 from Heritage Fund to build a pavilion for year-round visitor use, a garage for storage and maintenance, a septic system, and purchase equipment for building and maintaining its trail system. The township just northeast of Parry Sound. 

“Our government understands the importance of investing in multi-use spaces like the Georgian Nordic Outdoor Activity Centre as we work to attract families and visitors to explore all that Northern Ontario has to offer,” said Northern Development Minister Greg Rickford, chair of the Heritage Fund, in a news release.

On Oct. 3, various businesses and organizations in the Parry Sound area raked in a total of $1.9 million for a film production, business expansions and various infrastructure upgrades around the district.
