The Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association (NOMA) will hold its annual conference and general meeting April 27-29.
Fort Frances will host the three-day event, which is themed ‘Thrive in a Time of Change’ in response to challenges municipal governments are facing through the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.
The conference will include guest speakers, addresses from political leaders, a tradeshow, and a gala dinner.
Some of the highlights include:
- a keynote address by Stan Wesley, an Indigenous presenter from Six Nations Territory, who will speak about truth and reconciliation;
- presentations about NOSM University; Ontario’s forestry sector; homelessness, addictions, and mental health in the North; and northwestern Ontario’s tourism sector;
- a keynote address by Kari Chiappetta, a Thunder Bay consultant, who will speak about differences in the workplace;
- a ministers’ forum featuring Housing Minister Steve Clark, Northern Development Minister Greg Rickford, Solicitor General Sylvia Jones, and Deepak Anand, parliamentary assistant for the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development.
Registration for the event — which is being held in person and virtually — is now open.
