Expansion-minded TBT Engineering (TBTE) has opened a new branch office in Ottawa.
The Thunder Bay–headquartered multi-disciplinary engineering firm announced March 20 that it set up shop in Ottawa last month while also merging with LBE Group, a Kenora engineering company, catering to institutional, commercial and industrial clients.
in marking its 30th anniversary, TBT is embarking on a province-wide growth strategy across Ontario. The company already has other branches in Fort Frances and Collingwood.
A news release from TBT said the LBE merger brings 15 professionals into the fold, which should enhance their expertise in structural, mechanical, electrical and civil engineering.
In extending its reach to Ottawa, the company said it will expand TBT’s capabilities in environmental and geotechnical engineering in bringing aboard new expertise in hydrogeological services, geoenvironmental instrumentation and monitoring.
“Since day one, our vision and drive has always been to highlight the expertise and innovation that exists within Ontario,” said TBT president Scott Peterson in a statement.
“These expansion initiatives will increase TBTE’s ability to deliver high-quality engineering solutions throughout Ontario at a time when Ontario driven solutions will be more important than ever.”
TBT was established in 1995 as a small two-person materials testing lab that’s now grown into a firm of 150 employees through the acquisitions of Profor Engineering in 2015, Sostratus Engineering in 2017, and an expansion into southern Ontario in opening a Collingwood office in 2023.
Peterson calls the Ottawa expansion a “natural next step” to grow its workforce and expertise in new markets.
TBT is well known for is work in Northern Ontario in mining, energy and infrastructure projects while supporting First Nation partnerships.
“With these expansions, TBTE is now a provincial firm, and as we look to the future, TBTE remains committed to the company’s independent roots and Northern identity, while continuing to evolve,” added Peterson.
