Sal Dan General Contractors Inc. receives ICF Builder’s Award in Las Vegas

Sault builder wins international award in Vegas for Royal Canadian Legion apartment project

Sal Dan General Contractors Inc. was the winner at the 20th annual ICF (Insulated Concrete Formwork) builder's award ceremony in Las Vegas, NV on for its construction of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 25 building in Sault Ste. Marie.

The award ceremony took place at the World of Concrete Exposition and Convention, Jan. 22.

Sal Dan was one of many entries in the multi-unit residential category from the United States, Canada and abroad.

Insulated Concrete Formwork (ICF) is a modern method of construction utilizing Styrofoam forms to cast concrete walls.

The Legion Building on Great Northern Road is a 155,000-square-foot, 108-unit apartment building with underground garage, rooftop patio, tenant meeting rooms and amenities.

The first floor is occupied by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 25 offices, meeting rooms and museum. It also houses a restaurant and tavern. The construction of the Legion Building was a joint venture between the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 25 and Veterans Housing Inc.

Sam Biasucci, president of Sal Dan stated: “We are very honoured and pleased to have received this prestigious award. The design and construction of the Legion building was a team effort, and I wish to thank my employees for their great work in the construction of the building which was completed in 72 weeks.

"I also thank Dave Ellis and his design team, our subcontractors, and Helen Stewart, Colonel Clyde Healey and Major Pierre Breckenridge (Ret'd) of the Legion Branch 25 for their support and contribution throughout.”

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) should also be recognized as it was most supportive and instrumental in providing the necessary financing.

Major Pierre Breckenridge (Ret'd), President of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 25 said, “We were absolutely thrilled to learn that Sal Dan received this prestigious award in Las Vegas, and we want to congratulate Sam and his team.

"The award is well deserved. It was a pleasure dealing with Sam and his professional team throughout. The Legion is honoured that its building has been recognized internationally with this award.”
