Participants gathered in Sudbury in February for the 2024 Northern Ontario Ag Conference, hosted by the Northern Ontario Farm Innovation Alliance.

The Northern Ontario Farm Innovation Alliance (NOFIA) is pressing pause on its annual agriculture conference in 2025 as it goes into planning mode for its next strategic plan.

For the past six years, participants in the Northern Ontario agriculture and agri-food industries have gathered for two days in Sudbury to share knowledge, learn best practices, and network with others through guest presentations, panel discussions, and a trade show.

(An abbreviated version of the conference moved online in 2021 and 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.)

Past topics of conversation have included Ontario's pressing veterinary shortage, the benefits of introducing robotics to a farm, the value of growing ethnic vegetables in the North, and the role of women in agriculture.

This will mark the first year since 2019 that NOFIA won't hold the popular event, which draws participants from across Northern Ontario and beyond.

But dates have already been set for the conference's return in 2026.

The event will once again be held in Sudbury, Feb. 10-11, with more details to be announced closer to the date.

Those interested in being updated once planning begins are being encouraged to email NOFIA at info@nofia-agri.com.

Based in Temiskaming, NOFIA is a not-for-profit organization with a mandate to develop strategies and partnerships to ensure the advancement of agricultural research and innovation in Northern Ontario.
