V.B. Cook Company, a prominent Thunder Bay engineering firm, has been acquired by Genivar Income Fund.

Genivar, one of Canada's leading consulting engineering firms, has made previous acquisitions in Timmins, Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie.

Cook has more than 110 employees in Thunder Bay. The acquisition of Cook now gives Genivar more than 900 Ontario employees.

In a Feb. 1 news release, Genivar president/CEO Pierre Shoiry said the addition of Cook enables them to expand their presence in Northern Ontario's mining, renewable energy, transportation sectors and among First Nation clients.

“(Cook's) depth of mining experience also bodes well for the future, given the increasing demand in the sector, which is gradually stepping up production and undertaking infrastructure investments in Canada and internationally.”

Cook Engineering president David Knutson said becoming part of Genivar opens up new business opportunities. “Within Genivar's vast pool of resources, size and capacity, we will be able to further develop our potential by working on larger-scale projects.”
